CTS Awarded Design of Eco-Pulse Next Generation PV and BESS energy project – 9.9MW Facility First of its kind in North America

August 18, 2023 – In a major advancement for renewable energy, CTS, a leading engineering and technology firm, has been awarded the design contract for North America’s first 9.9 MW photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS). This next-generation project, named Eco-Pulse, represents a significant leap forward in integrating solar energy with advanced storage solutions to provide reliable, sustainable power.

Project Overview

The new system combines a 9.9 MW photovoltaic array with a state-of-the-art battery energy storage system, designed to maximize energy efficiency and reliability. This innovative project is set to become a benchmark for future renewable energy installations across the continent, showcasing CTS’s expertise in cutting-edge energy technologies.

Stace Campbell, President and CTO of CTS, expressed excitement about the project, stating, “We are honored to be at the forefront of this pioneering initiative. The ‘Eco-Pulse’ project embodies our commitment to advancing renewable energy solutions and demonstrates our capability to deliver complex, integrated systems that meet the highest standards of efficiency and sustainability.”

Key Responsibilities

CTS will handle several critical aspects of the Eco-Pulse project:

  • Design and Engineering: Co-Developing a comprehensive design for the integrated PV and BESS system. This includes the layout of the solar panels, battery storage infrastructure, and the interconnection with the local power grid to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Energy Management System (EMS): Co-Designing an advanced EMS to manage the generation, storage, and distribution of energy. The EMS will use predictive analytics and real-time data to optimize energy flow and maximize efficiency.
  • Environmental Impact Assessment: Conducting detailed environmental studies to ensure the project adheres to regulatory standards and minimizes ecological impact. This involves assessing the site for optimal placement and integration with the natural environment.
Technological Innovations

The Eco-Pulse installation incorporates several advanced technologies to enhance performance and sustainability:

  • High-Efficiency Photovoltaic Panels: Utilizing cutting-edge PV panels with high conversion efficiency, ensuring maximum energy capture from sunlight.
  • Advanced Battery Storage: Implementing a state-of-the-art BESS that can store excess solar energy for use during non-sunny periods, providing a stable and continuous power supply.
  • Smart Inverters: Using smart inverters to efficiently convert and manage the flow of electricity between the solar panels, battery storage, and the grid.
  • Predictive Maintenance and Monitoring: Equipping the system with predictive maintenance tools and real-time monitoring to ensure optimal operation and prompt issue resolution.
Environment and Community Benefits

The Eco-Pulse installation is expected to provide significant environmental and community benefits by delivering clean, renewable energy to the local grid, reducing reliance on fossil fuels, and lowering carbon emissions. Additionally, the integration of battery storage enhances grid stability and energy security.

Stace Campbell also highlighted the project’s benefits, stating, “The ‘Eco-Pulse’ installation represents a major step forward in sustainable energy. By combining solar power with advanced storage technology, we can ensure a reliable and clean energy supply that benefits both the environment and the community.”

Looking Forward

With the design phase set to commence immediately, CTS aims to complete the “Eco-Pulse” project by early 2026. This installation will serve as a model for future PV and BESS projects across North America, demonstrating the feasibility and advantages of integrated renewable energy systems.

The successful implementation of “Eco-Pulse” positions CTS as a leader in the renewable energy sector, showcasing their ability to deliver innovative, sustainable engineering solutions that meet the demands of a changing energy landscape.
